DMACC volleyball team sweeps Western Iowa Tech CC, 3-1

 

Sophomore Zophi Hendricks of Defiance had 10 kills and sophomore Coryl Matheny of Glenwood finished with nine as the DMACC volleyball team swept Western Iowa Tech Community College (WITCC), 3-1, in an Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) matchup September 19 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

The Bears won by set scores of 25-14, 22-25, 25-20, 25-13 to improve to 14-3 overall and 4-0 in the ICCAC. DMACC, ranked 19th in the most recent Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), has put together a four-match winning streak.

 

Hendricks hit .391, getting her 10 kills from 23 attacks with one hitting error. As a team, the Bears hit .300 with 43 kills from 110 attacks with 10 hitting errors. Sophomores Eden Wilson of Conrad and Kylie Henry of Urbana had seven kills apiece in the win with Henry hitting .545. Her seven kills came from 11 attacks with one hitting error. Sophomores Emma Flathers of Treynor and Monica Mirembe of Ankeny contributed five kills apiece.

 

Flathers topped DMACC in assists with 37 and came away with 12 digs. Henry and Flathers had two ace serves apiece and sophomore Kenya Prescott of Carroll led the way in digs with 21. Sophomore Jerica Heintz of Polk City had 13 digs and Hendricks led the Bears in blocks with three block assists.

The DMACC volleyball team will face Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) Sept. 21 at Fort Dodge. The Tritons are ranked eighth in NJCAA Division II. They are 17-2 overall and 3-1 in the ICCAC.
