DMACC volleyball team sweeps William Penn JV

The DMACC volleyball team ran its current winning streak to five consecutive matches behind a pair of wins over the William Penn University Junior Varsity (WPUJV) August 31 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

Sophomore Eden Wilson of Conrad had 11 kills as the Bears topped WPUJV #1 by set scores of 25-12, 25-9, 25-13 in the opening match. Zophi Hendricks, a sophomore from Defiance, had seven kills led the Bears to a 25-16, 25-3, 25-9 against WPUJV #2 in the second match.

 

Wilson hit .500 lead leading the Bears to their opening match win. Her 11 kills came from 20 attacks with just one hitting error. Hendricks had seven kills in the win and sophomores Emma Flathers of Treynor and Monica Mirembe of Ankeny and freshman Abby Brenizer of Norwalk finished with three apiece. DMACC hit .375, getting 34 kills from 72 attacks with seven hitting errors.

 

Flathers had a team-high 28 assists in the win and sophomore Maddie Dunham of Nevada contributed six serves. Sophomore Jerica Heintz of Polk City finished with five aces and Flathers and sophomore Coryl Matheny of Glenwood had three apiece. Sophomore Kenya Prescott of Carroll led the Bears in digs with 11.

 

Hendricks hit .462 in leading DMACC to its win against WPUJV #2. Her seven kills came from 13 attacks with one hitting error. Mirembe came away with six kills and Brenizer added five. The Bears hit .290, getting 31 kills from 69 attacks with 11 hitting errors.

Flathers again led DMACC in assists with 18 and freshman Halia Mahi of Cedar Falls had eight. Prescott topped the Bears in ace serves with seven and Dunham finished with three. Dunham and freshman Lexie Lane of Renwick led the way in digs with 11 and 10 respectively.

 

The DMACC volleyball team returns to Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) play Sept. 6 when the Bears will face Southeastern Community College (SECC) at West Burlington. DMACC is 1-0 in the ICCAC. SECC is 7-5 overall and 0-1 in conference matches.
