DMACC volleyball team tops. Highland CC and Spoon River College
  • Zophi Hendricks has 13 kills in 3-0 win over Highland CC
  • Coryl Matheny's 13 kills lead Bears past Spoon River College
  • Bears begin conference play on August 30

 

The DMACC volleyball team ran its record to 5-2 for the season with wins over Highland (Kan.) Community College (HCC) and Spoon River College (SRC) August 26 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

Sophomore Zophi Hendricks of Defiance led the Bears to a 25-22, 25-9, 25-15 win over HCC. Sophomore Coryl Matheny of Glenwood added 11 kills and sophomore Monica Mirembe of Ankeny came away with seven.

 

DMACC hit .229 in the win, getting 42 kills from 118 attacks with 15 hitting errors. Hendricks hit .417 with her 13 kills coming from 24 attacks with three hitting errors. Matheny's 11 kills came from 23 attacks with one hitting error, giving her a .435 hitting percentage.

 

Sophomore Emma Flathers of Treynor topped the Bears in assists with 36 and contributed three ace serves as did sophomore Jerica Heintz of Polk City. Sophomore Kenya Prescott of Carroll had 30 digs in the win. Matheny and sophomore Kylie Henry of Urbana finished with 11 apiece and Heintz added 10.

 

Matheny's 13 kills led the Bears to a 25-17, 25-15, 25-12 win over SRC. She hit .357 with the 13 kills coming from 28 attacks with three hitting errors. Hendricks and sophomore Eden Wilson of Conrad had seven kills apiece. DMACC hit .347 in the match, getting 44 kills from 98 attacks with 10 hitting errors.

 

Flathers again topped the Bears in assists with 41 and also had five ace serves. Heintz finished with four ace serves and Prescott led the way in digs with 23. Heintz, Flathers and sophomore Maddie Dunham of Nevada came away with 10 digs apiece.

 

The DMACC volleyball team opens Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) play against North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) Aug. 30 at Mason City. The Trojans bring a 4-4 record into the match.
