Five DMACC volleyball players and coach Patty Harrison earned postseason honors

Five members of the DMACC volleyball team and head coach Patty Harrison have earned postseason recognition from the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

Freshman Kaylie Welch of Davenport was named to the all-conference first team, the Region XI-B first team and the Region XI-B All-Tournament Team. Sophomore Katelyn Courtney of Ames was named to the all-conference second team and the Region XI-B first team and freshman Anna Niehaus of Carroll received all-conference honorable mention and joined Welch on the Region XI-B All-Tournament Team. Sophomore Jordan Neely of Tiffin earned all-conference honorable mention and freshman Elizabeth Pierce of Altoona joined Welch and Courtney on the Region XI-B first team.

 

Harrison, in her final season as the DMACC head coach, was named the Division II Coach of the Year.

 

Welch led the ICCAC in ace serves per set (.87) and was the only player in the conference with more than 50 ace serves as the finished the season with 69. She was also the top hitter in the conference with 245 kills.

 

Welch, who averaged 3.10 kills per set, hit .287 with her 245 kills coming from 666 attacks with 54 hitting errors. In addition to her 69 ace serves, she had 25 assists, 281 digs and 42 blocks, including 30 block assists.

 

Courtney hit .270 for the season with 79 kills from 230 attacks with 17 hitting errors. She led the Bears in blocks with 90, including 58 block assists, and finished the season with 15 ace serves, six assists and 63 digs.

 

Niehaus was second to Welch in kills with 176. She got those kills from 504 attacks with 53 hitting errors for a .244 hitting percentage. Niehaus also had two assists, 94 digs and 23 blocks, including 18 block assists.

 

Neely, a defensive specialist, had 249 digs and averaged 3.15 digs per set. Her season also included two kills, nine assists and nine ace serves.

 

Pierce led the Bears in assists with 376, averaging 4.82 assists per set. She also had 19 kills, 45 ace serves and 186 digs.

 

Harrison led DMACC to a 17-6 season, a third-place finish in the ICCAC Division II standings and a runner-up finish in the Region XI-B tournament. Her team was consistently ranking in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) national poll, reaching as high as third place. DMACC winning streaks during the season included nine and seven consecutive matches.
