DMACC Volleyball team tops SECC in Region XI-B; faces Kirkwood in championship match

Freshman Kylie Welch of Davenport had eight kills and 10 ace serves and freshmen Abbey Maue of Center Point and Emma McKinney of Lytton finished with five kills apiece as the DMACC volleyball team defeated Southeastern Community College (SECC), 3-0, in the semifinals of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI-B Volleyball Tournament March 28 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

The Bears, who improved to 17-5 and are ranked third in the NJCAA Division II poll, defeated the Blackhawks for the third time this season by set scores of 25-11, 25-17, 25-14. The win sends DMACC to the Region XI-B championship match against Kirkwood Community College (KCC) March 30 at Cedar Rapids. The Eagles, 16-4 and ranked seventh, have had the upper hand against DMACC this season, defeating the Bears 3-2 Jan. 26 inside the DMACC gymnasium and coming away with a 4-1 decision in a match March 23 at Cedar Rapids.

 

Welch hit .500 in DMACC's win over SECC, getting her eight kills from 12 attacks with two hitting errors. Maue hit .455 with her five kills coming from 11 attacks with no hitting errors and McKinney hit .250 with five kills coming from 16 attacks with one hitting error.

 

DMACC hit .284 in the match, getting 30 kills from 81 attacks with seven hitting errors.

 

Freshmen Elizabeth Pierce of Altoona and Morgan Tupper of Nevada led the Bears in assists with 14 and 13 respectively and Pierce added three ace serves.

 

Freshman Rachel Eddy of Dubuque led DMACC in digs with 11 and sophomore Jordan Neely of Tiffin had 10. Pierce and Welch added eight and six digs respectively.
