DMACC Volleyball team tops MCC and NIACC to run winning streak to seven matches

The DMACC volleyball team ran its winning streak to seven matches and improved to 16-4 for the season with victories against Marshalltown Community College (MCC) and North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC).

 

The Bears, ranked fifth in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, defeated MCC, 3-0, on March 18 and recorded a 3-0 win over NIACC on March 21.

 

DMACC's winning streak includes a season-high 21-0 record in sets as all seven victories have come by 3-0 decisions.

 

Freshman Anna Niehaus of Carroll had 10 kills and hit .600 as DMACC defeated MCC 25-14, 25-12, 25-17. Niehaus got her 10 kills from 15 attacks with one hitting error.

 

Freshman Kylie Welch of Davenport had eight kills and a .292 hitting percentage and sophomore Katelyn Courtney of Ames had seven kills and a .583 hitting percentage. Welch go her eight kills from 24 attacks with one hitting error and Courtney's seven kills came from 12 attacks with no hitting errors.

 

The Bears hit .286 in the win, getting 33 kills from 84 attacks with nine hitting errors.

 

Freshmen Elizabeth Pierce of Altoona and Morgan Tupper of Nevada had 15 and 13 assists respectively and Pierce contributed four ace serves with Welch getting three and Tupper coming away with two. Freshman Rachel Eddy of Dubuque topped DMACC in digs with 20 and Welch finished with nine.

 

Welch had nine kills and Niehaus and freshmen Abigail Maue of Center Point and Abby Allmon of Norwalk had seven apiece as DMACC defeated NIACC by scores of 25-15, 25-19, 25-22.

 

Welch hit .348 with her kills coming from 23 attacks with one hitting error. For the match, DMACC hit .318, getting 41 kills from 107 attacks with seven hitting errors.

 

Tupper had 22 assists in the win and Pierce came away with 15. Welch and Tupper finished with four and three ace serves respectively and Welch led three players in double figures in digs with 13. Eddy had 11 digs and Tupper added 10.

 

The DMACC volleyball team closes out the regular season against eighth-ranked Kirkwood Community College (KCC) March 23 at Cedar Rapids. The Eagles are 14-4 this season, including a 3-2 win over DMACC in the Bears' season opener Jan. 26 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
