DMACC volleyball team tops ILCC for fifth consecutive win

Freshman Kylie Welch of Davenport had seven kills and hit .333 in the match as the DMACC volleyball team ran its winning streak to five matches with a 3-0 victory against Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) March 16 at Estherville.

 

The Bears, ranked fifth in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, won by scores of 25-9, 25-11, 25-10 to improve to 14-4 and have won 15 consecutive sets for the second time this season.

 

Welch got her seven kills from 18 attacks with just one hitting error. Freshman Emma McKinney of Lytton had five kills and a .625 hitting percentage and sophomore Katelyn Courtney of Ames contributed four hills and hit .444. McKinney's five kills came from eight attacks with no hitting errors and Courtney got her four kills from nine attacks with no hitting errors.

 

DMACC hit .312 in the win, getting 33 kills from 77 attacks with nine hitting errors.

 

Freshman Morgan Tupper of Nevada led the Bears in assists with 13 and freshman Elizabeth Pierce of Altoona contributed 11 assists and two ace serves.

 

Freshman Rachel Eddy of Dubuque topped DMACC in digs with 15 and sophomore Jordan Neely of Tiffin and Welch came away with nine and eight respectively. Pierce had six digs and freshman Emily Kirkoff of Templeton finished with five. Courtney led the Bears in blocks with three block assists and freshman Abby Maue of Center Point had two block assists and one solo block.

 

The DMACC volleyball team will host Marshalltown Community College (MCC) tonight. Match time is 7 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium. MCC is 0-7 this season.
