DMACC volleyball team gets by SWCC, 3-0

Freshman Kylie Welch of Davenport had 12 kills, 10 ace serves and 12 digs to lead the DMACC volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Southwestern Community College (SWCC) March 10 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

The Bears, ranked seventh in the Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), improved to 12-4 for the season behind set scores of 25-19, 25-17, 25-4.

 

Welch hit .550 with her 12 kills coming from 20 attacks with one hitting error. Freshman Anna Niehaus of Carroll had six kills and freshman Abby Allmon of Norwalk added five.

 

DMACC hit .291, getting 31 kills from 79 attacks with eight hitting errors.

 

Freshman Morgan Tupper of Nevada topped the Bears in assists with 16 and freshman Elizabeth Pierce of Altoona came away with nine. Sophomore Katelyn Courtney of Ames had three ace serves to go with six blocks, including four block assists, and freshman Rachel Eddy of Dubuque joined Welch in double figures in digs with 11. Freshman Jordan Neely of Tiffin had nine digs and Niehaus and Pierce finished with five apiece.

 

The DMACC volleyball team will play Southeastern Community College (SECC) March 11 at West Burlington. SECC is 6-9. Included in the Blackhawks' losses is a 3-0 setback to DMACC Feb. 16 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
