DMACC volleyball team ends two match losing streak with 3-0 win against Ellsworth

 

The DMACC volleyball team ended a two-match losing streak with a 3-0 win over Ellsworth Community College (ECC) March 2 at Iowa Falls. The win comes on the heels of back-to-back losses to Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) and Hawkeye Community College (HCC) and improved DMACC's record to 10-4.

 

Set scores were 25-20, 25-27, 25-16.

 

DMACC, ranked ninth in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, was led by freshman Kylie Welch of Davenport, who had seven kills. Freshmen Emma McKinney of Lytton, Abigail Maue of Center Point and Abby Allmon of Norwalk had four kills apiece.


DMACC hit .175 in the win, getting 27 kills from 97 attacks with 10 hitting errors.

 

Freshmen Morgan Tupper of Nevada and Elizabeth Pierce of Altoona topped the Bears in assists with 12 and 10 respectively and Pierce added four ace serves. Welch and freshman Rachel Eddy of Dubuque had two ace serves apiece.

 

Eddy and sophomore Jordan Neely of Tiffin led the Bears in digs with 13 apiece and Welch came away with 11. Sophomore Katelyn Courtney of Ames had four blocks, including three block assists, and Welch and Allmon had three blocks apiece.

 

The DMACC volleyball team will play Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) March 5. Match time is 5:30 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium. DMACC took a 3-1 decision from NECC when the two teams played Feb. 11 at Norfolk, Neb.
