DMACC volleyball team suffers 3-2 loss to Hawkeye

Hawkeye Community College (HCC) handed the DMACC volleyball team its second consecutive loss Feb. 28 at Waterloo.

 

The Redtails defeated the Bears 15-25, 25-22, 25-22 17-25, 15-10 in avenging a 3-0 loss to DMACC Feb. 7 inside the DMACC gymnasium. DMACC, ranked fifth in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, fell to 9-4 for the season. HCC is ranked 13th in NJCAA Division II.

 

The loss was the second in a row for the Bears, who dropped a 3-1 decision to NJCAA Division I Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) Feb. 24 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

Freshmen Kylie Welch of Davenport and Abby Allmon of Norwalk paced DMACC with 12 kills apiece. Welch hit .243 with her 12 kills coming from 37 attacks with three hitting errors. Allmon hit .297 with 12 kills from 37 attacks with one hitting error.

 

As a team, DMACC hit .180, getting 47 kills from 172 attacks with 16 hitting errors.

 

Freshman Elizabeth Pierce of Altoona led the Bears in assists with 19 and freshman Morgan Tupper of Nevada added 17. Freshman Rachel Eddy of Dubuque contributed two ace serves and topped the Bears in digs with 24. Welch had 18 digs, Allmon finished with 17 and sophomore Jordan Neely of Tiffin had 16. Freshman Abigail Maue of Center Point had seven blocks in the match, including six block assists, and sophomore Katelyn Courtney of Ames finished with four blocks, including three solo blocks.

 

The DMACC volleyball team will play Ellsworth Community College (ECC), March 2 at Iowa Falls. ECC is 3-9 on the season. Included in those losses is a 3-0 loss to the Bears Feb. 2 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
