Bears top Blackhawks for eighth straight win

The DMACC volleyball team ran its record to 8-2 with a 3-0 win over Southeastern Community College (SECC) February 16 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

Set scores were 25-12, 25-17, 25-16.

 

DMACC, ranked ninth in this week's Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), hit .382 in the match, getting 38 kills from 89 attacks with just four hitting errors. That included a .519 hitting percentage in the third set when the Bears got 15 kills from 27 attacks with one hitting error.

 

Freshman Kylie Welch of Davenport led DMACC with 14 kills and a .481 hitting percentage with her kills coming from 27 attacks with one hitting error. Freshman Emma McKinney of Lytton finished with six kills, freshman Abby Allmon of Norwalk had five and sophomore Katelyn Courtney of Ames and freshmen Anna Niehaus of Carroll and Abigail Maue of Center Point had four apiece.

 

Freshman Morgan Tupper of Nevada and freshman Elizabeth Pierce of Altoona topped the Bears in assists with 17 and 16 respectively and sophomore Jordan Neely of Tiffin led the way in digs with 14. Freshman Rachel Eddy of Dubuque had 10 digs, Welch and Tupper finished with seven apiece, Pierce had six and Courtney contributed five. Neely, Courtney and Pierce had two ace serves apiece and Courtney led DMACC in blocks with four, including three block assists.

 

DMACC's win sets the stage for a return match with Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) Feb. 18 inside the DMACC gymnasium. The Tritons, ranked fourth in NJCAA Division II, are 9-0. Included in those victories is a 3-0 decision against DMACC Jan. 28 at Fort Dodge.
