DMACC volleyball team outlasts IHCC, 3-2
  • DMACC battles back from 2-0 deficit to pick up the win
  • Freshman Emma McKinney of Lytton leads the Bears with 11 kills
  • Bears win despite hitting just .159

 

Freshman Emma McKinney of Lytton recorded 11 kills and the DMACC volleyball team fought back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Indian Hills Community College (IHCC) February 14 at Ottumwa.

 

Set scores were 9-25, 21-25, 25-17, 25-22, 15-11.

 

Freshman Kylie Welch of Davenport added 10 kills as DMACC, ranked 20th in the most recent Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), improved to 7-2 with its seventh consecutive victory.

 

IHCC, an NJCAA Division I program, fell to 1-3 for the season.

 

The Bears won despite hitting a disappointing .159. They came away with 42 kills from 157 attacks with 17 hitting errors. McKinney hit .435 with her 11 kills coming from 23 attacks with one hitting error.

 

Freshman Elizabeth Pierce of Altoona led DMACC in assists with 20 and sophomore Morgan Tupper of Nevada added 12. Freshman Rachel Eddy of Dubuque had three ace serves and led the Bears in digs with 17. Welch finished with 16 digs and Tupper and freshman Abby Allmon of Norwalk came away with 11 and 10 respectively. Allmon had six blocks, including four block assists, and sophomore Katelyn Courtney of Ames finished with five blocks, including four block assists.

 

The DMACC volleyball team is home to Southeastern Community College (SECC) Feb. 16. Game time is 7 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium. SECC brings a 3-4 record into the match.
