DMACC volleyball team beats NECC for sixth straight win

Freshman Kylie Welch of Davenport had 15 kills and freshman Abby Allmon of Norwalk added 10 as the DMACC volleyball team extended its winning streak to six matches with a 3-1 victory against Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) February 11 at Norfolk, Neb.

 

Set scores were 24-26, 25-18, 25-9, 25-7.

 

DMACC, ranked 20th in the most recent Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), saw its 15-set winning streak come to an end with NECC's win in the opening set.  

 

Welch led the Bears with 15 kills and a .308 hitting percentage, getting those kills from 39 attacks with three hitting errors. Allmon added 10 kills and a .714 hitting percentage. She got those kills from 14 attacks with no hitting errors. Freshman Emma McKinney of Lytton added nine kills and hit .350 with 20 attacks and two hitting errors. As a team the Bears hit .368 with 51 kills from 114 attacks and just nine hitting errors.

 

DMACC is second to Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) in hitting percentage in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) at .247. The Bears have just 58 hitting errors from 701 attacks. Kirkwood Community College (KCC) is second in hitting errors with 95.

 

Freshman Elizabeth Pierce of Altoona topped DMACC in assists with 26 and added nine ace serves. Sophomore Morgan Tupper of Nevada had 20 assists and freshman defensive standout Rachel Eddy of Dubuque led the Bears in digs with 23. Sophomore Jordan Neely of Tiffin added 12 digs and Pierce came away with 10. Sophomore Katelyn Courtney of Ames led DMACC in blocks with five, including three solo blocks.

 

The DMACC volleyball team faces Indian Hills Community College (IHCC) Feb. 14 at Ottumwa. IHCC, an NJCAA Division I program, is 1-2 on the season and is ranked 14th in NJCAA Division I.
