DMACC volleyball team improves to 3-2 with sweep of SWCC
  • Bears use a .362 hitting percentage enroute to their third straight victory
  • Freshman Kylie Welch leads DMACC with 12 kills and one hitting error
  • Freshman Elizabeth Pierce contributes 15 assists and three ace serves

 

The DMACC volleyball team improved to 3-2 for the season with a 3-0 win against Southwestern Community College (SWCC) February 4 at Creston. The win was the third straight for the Bears after they opened the season with back-to-back losses to nationally ranked Kirkwood Community College (KCC) and Iowa Central Community College (ICCC).

 

Set scores were 25-16, 25-14, 25-6.

 

Freshman Kylie Welch of Davenport led DMACC with 12 kills, a .647 hitting percentage and four ace serves. Her kills came from 17 attacks with just one hitting error. The Bears hit .362 in the win, getting 29 kills from 69 attacks with four hitting errors. Freshmen Emma McKinney of Lytton and Anna Niehaus of Carroll had six and five kills respectively.

 

Freshman Elizabeth Pierce of Altoona came away with a team-high 15 assists and three ace serves and freshman Rachel Eddy of Dubuque led the Bears in digs with 13. Welch finished with seven digs, freshman Kennedi Purdy of Gilbertville had six and sophomore Jordan Neely of Tiffin had five. Sophomore Katelyn Courtney of Ames led DMACC in blocks with five, including three block assists.

 

The DMACC volleyball team will seek its fourth consecutive win Feb. 7 when the Bears host Hawkeye Community College (HCC). Match time is I p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium. HCC is undefeated on the season at 5-0 and is ranked 12th in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll.
