DMACC volleyball team sweeps Ellsworth CC, 3-0

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) volleyball team improved to 2-2 for the season with a 3-0 win over Ellsworth Community College February 2 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

Set scores were 25-18, 25-16, 25-13.

 

The Bears, who opened the season with back-to-back losses to nationally ranked Kirkwood Community College (KCC) and Iowa Central Community College (ICCC), extended their current winning streak to two matches with a .225 hitting percentage, getting 26 kills from 80 attacks with just eight hitting errors.

 

Freshman Anna Niehaus of Carroll led DMACC in hitting with 10 kills and a .625 hitting percentage with those 10 kills coming from 16 attacks with no hitting errors. Freshman Kylie Welch of Davenport added seven kills and a team-high 10 ace serves.

 

Sophomore Morgan Tupper of Nevada and freshman Elizabeth Pierce of Altoona led the Bears in assists with 11 apiece.

 

Welch led DMACC in digs with 14, Tupper added 10 and freshman Rachel Eddy of Dubuque finished with nine to go with two ace serves. Sophomore Katelyn Courtney of Ames topped DMACC in blocks with five, including four solo blocks.

 

The DMACC volleyball team will be looking for its third consecutive victory Feb. 4 when the Bears travel to Creston to face Southwestern Community College (SWCC). The Spartans are 0-3 this season.
