Five DMACC Volleyball Players Earn Conference, Regional Honors

Five members of the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) volleyball team were named to the all-conference and all-regional volleyball teams announced recently by the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

Sophomores Lauren Rieck of Ankeny and Leiah Paustian of Marshalltown and freshman Peyton Parker of La Porte City were named to the ICCAC first team and to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI-B First Team. Sophomore Rachael Bair of Clarinda and freshman Madison Paulsen of Council Bluffs received all-conference honorable mention recognition and were named to the NJCAA Region XI-B Second Team.

 

DMACC led the conference with its three first team and two honorable mention selections.

 

Rieck was second in the conference in blocks with 164 and second in hitting percentage at 28.3 percent. Rieck had 384 kills for the season, the second highest on the team. Her season also included six assists and 32 digs. Rieck's 164 blocks included 108 block assists.

 

Paustian was second in the conference in assists per set, averaging 9.3. She finished the season with 1, 249 assists and also had 35 kills, 18 ace serves, 338 digs and 62 blocks, including 46 block assists.

 

Parker led DMACC in kills with 439, ranking sixth in the conference, and her 3.2 kills per set average was sixth best in the league. Parker also had eight assists, 28 ace serves, 176 digs and 43 blocks, including 33 block assists.

 

Bair led the Bears in digs with 502, averaging 3.72 digs per set. Her season also included 27 kills, 56 assists, 24 ace serves and nine block assists.

 

Paulsen finished third on the team in kills with 348. She finished the season with seven assists, 31 ace serves 422 digs and 67 blocks, including 49 block assists.

 

The DMACC volleyball team finished the 2017 season at 19-19. The Bears were second in the ICCAC at 7-1 and reached the NJCAA Region XI-B championship match where the lost to Iowa Central Community College (ICCC).
