Leads Bears Past ECC in Region XI-B Semifinals, 3-0

Freshman Peyton Parker of La Porte City led four players in double figures in kills with 20 as the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) volleyball team defeated Ellsworth Community College (ECC), 3-0, Nov. 1 in the semifinals of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI-B Volleyball Tournament inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

Sophomore Lauren Rieck of Ankeny and freshman Madison Paulsen of Council Bluffs had 13 kills apiece and freshman Lacey Clark of Bettendorf added 10 as DMACC improved to 19-18 for the season with a 25-14, 25-6, 25-18 win.

 

The Bears will face Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) in the Region IX-B championship match Nov. 4 at Iowa Falls. ICCC defeated Southeastern Community College (SECC) in the other Region XI-B semifinal match on Nov. 1. The DMACC-ICCC winner will advance to the NJCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Championship Nov. 16 to 18 at Charleston, W.V.

 

DMACC, which defeated ICCC, 3-1, during the regular season, hit .515 in beating  ECC for the second time this season. The Bears came away with 59 kills from 99 attacks with just eight hitting errors.

 

Sophomore Leiah Paustian of Marshalltown had 44 assists in the win and sophomore Rachael Bair of Braddyville led four players double figures in digs with 18. Paulsen had 14 digs, Paustian finished with 12 and freshman Gill Tupper of Nevada had 13. Rieck led DMACC in blocks with two.
