Rieck Leads Bears to 3-1 Win Over Iowa Central

Sophomore Lauren Rieck of Ankeny had 15 kills and hit .379 to lead the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) volleyball team to a 3-1 win over Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) October 25 at Fort Dodge.

 

Set scores were 25-21, 20-25, 25-20, 25-15 as the Bears improved to 18-17 for the season. DMACC completed play in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) in second place at 7-1. The Bears will be the No.1 seed in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI-B, which begins Nov. 1. DMACC will host Ellsworth Community College (ECC) in the quarterfinals. ECC, which lost to the Bears during the regular season, is 9-24 overall and 2-6 in the ICCAC.

 

Rieck got her 15 kills from 29 attacks with four hitting errors. DMACC hit .143 in the win, getting 36 kills from 126 attacks with 18 hitting errors. Freshmen Peyton Parker of La Porte City and Madison Paulsen of Council Bluffs had eight and seven kills respectively.

 

Sophomore Leiah Paustian of Marshalltown led DMACC in assists with 34 and freshman Gill Tupper of Nevada contributed five ace serves and 13 digs. Sophomore Rachael Bair of Braddyville had a team-high 18 digs to go with three ace serves and Paulsen and Paustian had 10 and eight digs respectively. Rieck topped the Bears in blocks with seven, including four block assists.

 

The DMACC volleyball team closes out the regular season Oct. 30 against Indian Hills Community College (IHCC). The match begins at 6:30 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium. IHCC took. 3-0 decision from the Bears in DMACC's season opener on Aug. 22.
