DMACC Volleyball Team Goes 2-2 in Triton Volleyball Invitational

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) volleyball team went 2-2 while competing in the Triton Volleyball Invitational October 20 and 21 at Fort Dodge.

 

The Bears defeated Highland Community College (HCC), 3-0, in their opening match on Oct. 20 and then lost to North Platte Community College (NPCC), 3-0, later in the day. On Oct. 21, DMACC dropped a 3-1 decision to Cowley County Community College (CCCC) and then closed out tournament play with a 3-0 win over Labette Community College (LCC).

 

The Bears came away from the tournament with a 17-17 record for the season.

 

Sophomore Lauren Rieck of Ankeny and freshman Peyton Parker of La Porte City had 13 kills apiece in leading DMACC past HCC, 25-20, 25-22, 29-27. Freshman Madison Paulsen of Council Bluffs contributed nine kills to the win. DMACC hit .224 with 42 kills coming from 107 attacks with 18 hitting errors.

 

Sophomore Leiah Paustian of Marshalltown led the Bears in assists with 38 and sophomore Rachael Bair of Braddyville led the way in digs with 17. Paustian had 11 digs and Rieck and Paulsen topped DMACC in blocks with six apiece, including five block assists apiece.

 

Paulsen had eight kills and Rieck and Parker finished with six apiece as DMACC dropped a 21-25, 16-25, 19-25 decision to NPCC. The Bears hit just .128 in the loss, getting 24 kills from 86 attacks with 13 hitting errors.

 

Paustian topped DMACC in assists with 23 and Paulsen and freshman Gill Tupper of Nevada had two ace serves apiece. Bair was the leader in digs with 12 and Paulsen, freshman Lexi Killinger of Treynor and Paustian had nine, eight and seven digs respectively. Rieck led the Bears in blocks with four and Paulsen had three.

 

Paulsen had 12 kills and Rieck and Parker finished with 11 apiece in DMACC's 18-25, 25-23, 14-25, 25-27 loss to CCCC. The Bears hit .169, getting their 43 kills from 148 attacks with 18 hitting errors.

 

Paustian had 39 assists in the loss and Bair came away with a team-high 23 digs. Paulsen finished with 13 digs, Paustian had 12 and Killinger added 11. Rieck was the team leader in blocks with four.

 

Parker's 15 kills led DMACC to a 25-8, 25-17, 25-17 win over LCC in the Bears' final match of the tournament. Rieck and Paulsen had eight and seven kills respectively as DMACC hit .234 in the win. The Bears finished the match with 37 kills from 94 attacks with 15 hitting errors.

 

Paustian had a team-high 36 assists and Paulsen and Bair finished with 13 and 10 digs respectively. Rieck had three solo blocks in the win.

 

The DMACC volleyball team is home to Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) on Oct. 25. The Tritons are 27-8 overall and 6-1 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). DMACC is also 6-1 in league play.
