DMACC’S Lauren Rieck Named NJCAA Division II Play of the Week

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has named Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) volleyball player Lauren Rieck of Ankeny the NJCAA Division II Player of the Week for the week of September 25 to October 4.

 

Rieck, a sophomore, had 60 kills, 32 blocks, including 10 solo blocks, and nine digs during the week as the Bears recorded two victories in five matches. DMACC defeated Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) in an Iowa Community College Athletic Conference matchup and then dropped three of four matches in the Johnson County Volleyball Challenge at Overland Park, Kan. DMACC's lone win in the tournament came against North Platte Community College (NPCC). The Bears lost to Central (Neb.) Community College (CCC) and took Cowley County Community College (CCCC) and Johnson County Community College (JCCC) to five sets before losing.

 

CCC is currently ranked third in the NJCAA Division II poll and CCCC is eighth. JCCC is receiving votes in the poll.

 

Rieck is averaging 2.57 kills and 1.17 blocks per set. She is hitting .281 with 229 kills from 581 attacks with 85 hitting errors. Rieck has 104 blocks this season, including 67 block assists. Her season also included three assists and 23 digs.

 

The DMACC volleyball team will host the DMACC Invitational today and Oct. 7 inside the DMACC gymnasium. The Bears will face Parkland College (PC) and Coffeyville Community College (CCC) in matches today and will meet North Dakota State College of Science (NDSCS) and Highland Community College (HCC) in matches Oct. 7. The Bears defeated NDSCS, 3-0, in the Topper's Pizza Yellowjacket Invitational Sept. 16 at Rochester, Minn. DMACC has not faced PC, CCC or HCC in matches this season.
