DMACC Volleyball Team Drops Three of Four Matches in Johnson County Volleyball Challenge

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) volleyball team came away one victory and three losses in the Johnson County Volleyball Challenge September 29 and 30 at Overland Park, Kan.

 

The Bears lost to Central (Neb.) Community College (CCC), 3-1, and Johnson County Community College (JCCC), 3-2, on Sept. 29. On Sept. 30, DMACC defeated North Platte Community College (NPCC), 3-2, before losing its final match of the tournament, a 3-2 decision to Cowley County Community College (CCCC) to fall to 11-12 for the season.

 

Freshman Peyton Parker of La Porte City had 15 kills and freshman Madison Paulsen of Council Bluffs came away with 11 in DMACC's 25-16, 10-25, 21-25, 22-25 loss to CCC. Sophomore Lauren Rieck of Ankeny contributed nine kills as DMACC hit .084, getting 42 kills from 119 attacks with 32 hitting errors.

 

Sophomore Leiah Paustian of Marshalltown had 31assists in the loss and Paulsen and sophomore Rachael Bair of Braddyville led the Bears in digs with 22 and 20 respectively. Parker finished with 16 digs and Rieck had five blocks, including three block assists.

 

Paulsen had 13 kills, Rieck finished with 12 and Parker added 11 as DMACC dropped a 15-25, 25-17, 15-25, 25-16, 12-15 decision to JCCC. The Bears hit .165 with their 47 kills coming from133 attacks with 25 hitting errors.

 

Paustian topped DMACC in assists with 44, Paulsen had three ace serves and Parker came away with two. Bair led four players in double figures in digs with 20. Paustian had 12 and Paulsen and freshman Lexi Killinger of Treynor had 10 apiece. Rieck led the way in blocks with six, including four block assists.

 

Rieck had 13 kills and Parker added 11 as DMACC defeated NPCC 19-25, 25-19, 14-25, 25-22, 15-5. The Bears had another disappointing hitting match, getting 40 kills from 145 attacks with 29 hitting errors for a .076 hitting percentage.

 

Freshman Gill Tupper of Nevada contributed 39 assists to the win and Bair topped DMACC in digs with 16. Paustian finished with 13 digs, Killinger had 11 and Rieck had nine blocks, including eight block assists. Paustian finished with five blocks and Paustian and freshman Lacey Clark Bettendorf had four apiece.

 

Rieck and Parker had 17 kills apiece as DMACC fell to CCCC, 17-25, 26-24, 25-17, 22-25, 14-16. The Bears hit .167 in the loss, getting 50 kills from 156 attacks with 24 hitting errors.

 

Paustian led DMACC in assists with 46 and Tupper had three ace serves. Bair led five players in double figures in digs with 21. Paulsen finished with 18 digs, Killinger had 17 and Paustian and Tupper had 14 and 12 respectively. Rieck had a team-high 10 blocks, including six block assists.

 

The DMACC volleyball team returns to Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) play Oct. 4 when the Bears host Ellsworth Community College (ECC) inside the DMACC gymnasium. DMACC is 3-1 in league play. ECC is 7-16 overall and 1-2 in the conference.
