DMACC Volleyball Team Drops Season Opener to IHCC, 3-0

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Indian Hills Community College (IHCC) in the Bears' season opener August 22 at Ottumwa.

 

Set scores were 25-13, 26-24, 28-26.

 

DMACC came into the match with a No. 11 ranking in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll. IHCC is ranked seventh in NJCAA Division I.

 

Freshman Peyton Parker of La Porte City, led the Bears with seven kills. Freshman Madison Paulsen of Council Bluffs had five and sophomores Rachael Bair of Braddyville and Lauren Rieck of Ankeny contributed four kills apiece. DMACC hit just .127 in the loss, getting 23 kills from 63 attacks with 15 hitting errors.

 

Sophomore Leiah Paustian of Marshalltown dished out a team high 20 assists and Bair and freshman Brianna Harvey of Dysart had two ace serves apiece.

 

Bair led DMACC in digs with 12 and Paustian and freshman Gill Tupper of Nevada had 11 apiece. Paustian and Reick topped the Bears in blocks with three apiece.

 

The DMACC volleyball team will participate in the Battle in the Dells Showcase Aug. 25 and 26 at Wisconsin Dells, Wis. The Bears will face Madison College (MC) and Owens Community College (OCC) on Aug. 25 and will play Muskegon Community College (MCC) and Macomb Community College (MCC) on Aug. 26. OCC is ranked third in NJCAA Division II.
