DMACC women's golf team moves into 16th place in national championship

 

The DMACC women's golf team posted a 375 in the third round of the 2021 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Women's National Championship May 12 at Plantation Bay Golf & Country Club in Ormond Beach, Fla., and moved from 17th to 16th in the team standings.

 

DMACC's 375 score follows a 408 in the first round and a 382 in the second round and gives the Bears a three-round total of 1,165 strokes. Seminole State College (SSC) is the tournament leader with a three-round score of 883. SSC's Minori Nagano is the individual leader with an eight-under-par 208 after posting a six-under-par 66 in the third round.

 

DMACC sophomore Krista Swenson of Story City led the Bears in the third round, posting a 91. She is 70th in the individual standings with a 54-hole total of 280. Sophomores Aubrey Duncan of Columbus Junction and Lydia Steier of Grander shot 92s in the third round and are tied for 72nd and 76th respectively. Duncan has a 54-hole total of 283 and Steier is at 287. Sophomore Emily Knoche of Iowa City closed out DMACC's third-round performance with a 100. She is tied for 94th with a three-round score of 315.

 

The tournament ends today with the fourth round at Plantation Bay Golf & Country Club. It will take almost a complete collapse by DMACC in the final round to not finish 16th. The Bears lead No. 17 Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) by 17 shots, and they are 12 strokes behind No. 15 Central Wyoming College (CWC).
