DMACC women's golf team climbs to 17th in national tournament

The DMACC women's golf team improved by two spots after the Bears completed their second round in the 2021 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Women's National Championship May 11 at Plantation Bay Golf & Country Club in Ormond Beach, Fla.

 

DMACC began play in 19th place after an opening round 408 and posted a 382 in the second round for a 36-hole score of 709. The Bears ended the day in 17th place in the tournament.

 

The top 12 teams were unable to complete their second rounds because of weather issues and were to finish this morning before the third round could begin.

 

Sophomore Krista Swenson of Story City led DMACC in the second round, shooting a 90 over the par 72 layout for a 36-hole score of 189 and is tied for 76th place in the individual competition.

 

Sophomore Audrey Duncan of Columbus Junction moved into a tie for 79th place after posting a 92 in her round, seven strokes better than the 99 she shot in the first round. She has a two-day total of 191. Sophomore Lydia Steier of Granger, who led the Bears after an opening-round 96, shot a 99 on the second day and is tied for 84th with a 36-hole score of 195. Sophomore Emily Knoche of Iowa City rounded out DMACC's second-day performance with a 101, 13 strokes better than the 114 she shot on opening day. She is tied for 101st in the individual competition.

 

The tournament continues through May 13.
