DMACC women's golf team finishes third in Region XI Championship
  • Sophomore Lydia Steier of Granger leads the Bears with a 36-hole total of 170 and a tie for fifth
  • Sophomore Krista Swenson of Story City ties for seventh, sophomore Aubrey Duncan of Columbus Junction ties for 12th and sophomore Emily Knoche of Iowa City finishes 15th
  • Steier, Swenson, Duncan and Knoche have qualified for the NJCAA national championship

 

The DMACC women's golf team came away with a third-place finish in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI Championship April 24 and 25 at Otter Creek Golf Course in Ankeny.

 

Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) took the team championship with a 36-hole score of 604. The Reivers were followed by Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) at 701 and DMACC at 704. IWCC's Luisa Gibson took medalist honors with a score of 153 on rounds of 73 and 80 over the par-71 layout.

 

Sophomore Lydia Steier of Granger Led DMACC with a 170 and tied for fifth place. She posted rounds of 84 and 86. Sophomore Krista Swenson of Story City tied for seventh, sophomore Aubrey Duncan of Columbus Junction tied for 12th and sophomore Emily Knoche of Iowa City finished 15th. Freshman Quinn Eslinger of Afton rounded out DMACC's performance with a 16th-place finish.

 

Swenson turned in two rounds of 86 for a 172, Duncan shot rounds of 83 and 95 for a 178 and Knoche shot 89 and 95 for 184. Eslinger posted scores of 89 and 102 for a 36-hole score of 191.

 

Steier, Swenson, Duncan and Eslinger will represent DMACC in the NJCAA Women's Golf Championship May 10 to 13 at Plantation Bay Golf & Country Club in Ormond Beach, Fla.
