DMACC women's golf team wins Hawkeye Spring Invite
  • Sophomore Lydia Steier of Granger paces Bears with tie for second
  • Sophomore Aubrey Duncan of Columbus Junction and freshman Quinn Eslinger of Afton tie for fifth
  • All six DMACC golfers finish in the top ten

 

The DMACC women's golf team won its second consecutive tournament championship with a first-place finish in the Hawkeye Spring Invite April 16 at Irv Warren Golf Course in Waterloo.

 

The Bears took the title with an 18-hole score of 353, 14 strokes ahead of runner-up North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC). The win came a day after the DMACC women won the NIACC Spring Invitational at Mason City.

 

NIACC's Thea Lunning won medalist honors with a 9-over-par 81.

 

DMACC was led by sophomore Lydia Steier who tied for second with an 86. The Bears saw all six of their players finish in the top 10. Sophomore Aubrey Duncan of Columbus Junction and freshman Quinn Eslinger of Afton tied for fifth, sophomore Krista Swenson of Story City was seventh and sophomore Emily Knoche of Iowa City finished eighth. Freshman Frannie Brown of Des Moines rounded out DMACC's performance with a 10th place finish.

 

Duncan and Eslinger posted 88s, Swenson shot a 91, Knoche turned in a 92 and Brown shot a 97.

 

The DMACC women's golf team will play in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Women's Region XI Championship April 23 and 24 at Otter Creek Golf Course in Ankeny.
