Hutchinson's 31 points lead DMACC women's basketball past ICCC, 81-69

Sophomore Reanna Hutchinson of Eau Claire, Wis., put on a shooting clinic in leading the DMACC women's basketball team to an 81-69 win over Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) February 17 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

Hutchinson scored a game-high 31 points on 79 percent shooting from the field as the Bears swept their season series against the Tritons. She made 11 of 14 field goal attempts, including 6-of-7 from three-point range, and was 3-of-5 from the free throw line.

 

Sophomore Jaden Ainley of Clear Lake and freshman Eviyon Richardson of Waterloo joined Hutchinson in double figures with 20 and 11 points respectively as the Bears improved to 20-7 overall and 15-2 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). DMACC stretched its winning streak to nine games and has won 14 of its last 15 games. The lone loss was a 76-74 decision to Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) in which the Reivers scored in the closing seconds to come away with the win.

 

The Bears, ranked 18th in the Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), led throughout their win against ICCC. They had an 18-12 lead at the end of the first quarter and opened up a 36-19 advantage at halftime. DMACC led 60-43 at the end of the third quarter.

 

Hutchinson's performance helped DMACC to 50 percent shooting for the game as the Bears were 28-of-56 from the field, including 11-of-22 from three-point range. Ainley made three of five shots from beyond the arc as she and Hutchinson accounted for nine of the Bears' 11 three-pointers. DMACC was 14-of-23 from the free throw line.

 

Richardson grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double and sophomore Hallie Mohr of Mediapolis also had 10, helping the Bears to a 43-24 advantage on the boards. Sophomore Kennedy Jones of Oak Park, Ill., came away with six rebounds to go with six assists and two steals and Ainley and sophomore Rebekah Fuller of Bondurant had five and four rebounds respectively.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team puts its nine-game winning streak on the line Feb. 21 when the Bears face second-ranked Kirkwood Community College (KCC) at Cedar Rapids. The Eagles are 25-2 overall, 16-1 in the ICCAC and are riding an 11-game winning streak. They defeated DMACC 63-48 when the two teams played Dec. 9 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
