Ainley leads DMACC women's basketball past MCC, 82-58

 

Sophomore Jaden Ainley of Clear Lake made six three-pointers en route to 28 points as the DMACC women's basketball team came away with an 82-58 win over Marshalltown Community College (MCC) January 31 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

Freshmen Eviyon Richardson of Waterloo and Mary Walker of Fonda scored 18 and 10 points respectively as the Bears improved to 15-7 overall and 11-2 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). The win was the fourth in a row for the Bears, who are ranked 19th in this week's Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), and they have won 13 of their last 15 games.

 

Ainley got her 28 points from 53 percent shooting from the field. She made 10 of 19 field goal attempts, including 6-of-11 from three-point range, and was 2-of-2 from the free throw line.

 

DMACC led throughout the game. The Bears had an 18-13 lead at the end of the first quarter and outscored the Tigers 23-12 in the second period for a 41-25 advantage at halftime. DMACC had a 64-41 lead at the end of the third quarter.

 

The Bears shot 39 percent from the field, hitting 26 of 67 field goal attempts. They were 13-of-30 from three-point range and 17-of-21 from the free throw line.

 

Richardson picked up a double-double with 12 rebounds as DMACC came away with a 51-31 advantage on the boards. Sophomore Hallie Mohr of Mediapolis pulled down nine rebounds and sophomore Kennedy Jones of Oak Park, Ill., and freshman Joy Beran of Riceville had seven rebounds apiece. Jones topped the Bears in assists with seven and Walker and sophomore Reanna Hutchinson of Eau Claire, Wis., had three apiece. Ainley and sophomore Rebekah Fuller of Bondurant topped the Bears in steals with two apiece.

 

The DMAC women's basketball team will face Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) in an ICCAC matchup Feb. 3 at Estherville. The Lakers are 6-15 overall and 2-10 in the ICCAC. Their losses include 78-58 decision against DMACC Jan. 3 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
