Jaden Ainley's 24 points lead DMACC women's basketball past SECC, 70-41

Sophomore Jaden Ainley of Clear Lake scored 24 points to lead the DMACC women's basketball team past Southeastern Community College (SECC), 70-41, January 24 at Keokuk.

 

Ainley shot 63 percent from the field, hitting 10 of 16 field goal attempts, including three three-pointers in five attempts. She was also 3-of-5 from the free throw line.

 

Sophomore Reanna Hutchinson of Eau Claire, Wis., joined Ainley in double figures with 17 points as the Bears improved to 13-7 overall and 9-2 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) with their second straight win. DMACC, the No. 18 team in this week's Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), has won 11 of its last 13 games.

 

Freshman Reece Stevens of Tulsa, Okla., and sophomore Rebekah Fuller of Bondurant contributed eight points apiece to the Bears' win and freshman Eviyon Richardson of Waterloo scored seven points.

 

 DMACC led throughout the game. The Bears had a 25-5 advantage at the end of the first quarter and were up 40-11 at halftime. They built their cushion to 58-23 after three quarters.

 

DMACC shot 43 percent from the field, making 29 of 68 field goal attempts, including 9-of-27 from three-point range. The Bears were 3-of-9 from the free throw line.

 

Sophomore Hallie Mohr of Mediapolis pulled down eight rebounds and Stevens came away with seven as DMACC controlled the boards, 44-28. Hutchinson dished out a team-high six assists and Ainley and sophomore Kennedy Jones of Oak Park, Ill., led the Bears in steals with two apiece. Hutchinson was the leader in blocked shots with four.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will be home to Ellsworth Community College (ECC) Jan. 27. Game time is 1 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium. ECC is 7-13 overall and 2-9 in the ICCAC. DMACC defeated the Panthers 74-66 when the two teams placed Jan. 6 at Iowa Falls.
