DMACC women's basketball drops last-second decision to IWCC

 

Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) got a basket in the closing seconds to hand the DMACC women's basketball team a 76-74 loss January 20 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

The Bears, led by 17 points from freshman Eviyon Richardson of Waterloo, saw their five-game winning streak come to an end. They fell to 11-7 overall and 7-2 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

IWCC, ranked second in the most recent Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), leads the ICCAC at 9-0 and is 17-1 overall. The Reivers extended their winning streak to 15 games.

 

Sophomores Jaden Ainley of Clear Lake and Reanna Hutchinson of Eau Claire, Wis., joined Richardson in double figures with 15 and 13 points respectively and sophomore Rebekah Fuller of Bondurant came away with 11 points.

 

IWCC led 18-13 at the end of the quarter and pushed its advantage to 40-28 at halftime. DMACC outscored the Reivers 22-13 in the third period to trail 53-50 heading into the fourth quarter.

 

The Bears shot 47 percent, making 31 of 66 field goal attempts. They were 5-of-19 three-point range and 9-of-15 from the free throw line.

 

Ainley recorded another double-double with 10 rebounds as DMACC came away with a 40-32 advantage on the boards. Hutchinson grabbed seven rebounds and sophomore Kennedy Jones of Oak Park, Ill., had five rebounds to go with a team-high three assists.

 

DMACC will host Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) today. Game time is 5:30 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium. NECC is 8-9 overall and 5-4 in the ICCAC.
