DMACC women's basketball team drops 63-48 decision to KCC

The DMACC women's basketball team fell to 6-6 overall and 2-1 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) following a 63-48 loss to Kirkwood Community College (KCC) December 9 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

KCC, the top-ranked team in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, had a 13-6 lead at the end of the first quarter and controlled the tempo the rest of the way. DMACC trailed 28-21 at halftime and 46-37 at the end of the third quarter.

 

KCC remained undefeated at 10-0 and improved to 3-0 in the ICCAC.

 

Freshman Eviyon Richardson of Waterloo led the Bears with 11 points and sophomore Jaden Ainley of Clear Lake contributed nine points. DMACC got eight points from sophomore Rebekah Fuller of Bondurant and sophomore Hallie Mohr of Mediapolis and freshman Mary Walker of Fonda scored seven points apiece.

 

The Bears shot just 28 percent, making 18 of 64 field goal attempts. They were 2-of-20 from three-point range and 10-of-16 from the free throw line.

 

Ainley, Fuller and Mohr pulled down four rebounds apiece as KCC came away with a 36-24 advantage on the boards. Sophomore Kennedy Jones of Oak Park, Ill., led the Bears in steals with four

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will face Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) Dec. 13 at Fort Dodge. The Tritons are 8-1 overall and 1-1 in the ICCAC.
