Hutchinson leads DMACC women's basketball team past SECC, 77-39

Sophomore Reanna Hutchinson scored 21 points, grabbed six rebounds, dished out five assists and came away with five steals as the DMACC women's basketball team handed Southeastern Community College (SECC) a 77-39 loss December 6 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

Hutchinson made eight of 13 field goal attempts, including 5-of-8 from three-point range, in leading the Bears to their fourth consecutive victory.

 

Freshman Mary Walker of Fonda came off the bench to score 17 points and sophomore Jaden Ainley of Clear Lake had 14 as the Bears improved to 6-5 overall and 2-0 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

DMACC led throughout the game. It was 21-6 at the end of the first quarter, 33-15 at halftime and 60-27 at the end of the third quarter.

 

DMACC shot 48 percent in the win, hitting 28 of 58 field goal attempts. The Bears were 11-of-23 from three-point range and 10-of-12 from the free throw line.

 

Hutchinson's six rebounds and six each from Walker, freshman Joy Beran of Riceville and sophomore Adriana Contreras-Gomez of Commerce City, Colo., lifted DMACC to a 36-30 advantage in rebounding. Walker also had five assists and sophomore Kennedy Jones of Oak Park, Ill., finished with four.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will be home to Kirkwood Community College (KCC) on Dec. 9. Game time is 1 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium. KCC is ranked first in this week's Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). The Eagles are undefeated at 9-0 and are 2-0 in the ICCAC.
