Ainley's double-double leads DMACC women's basketball team past NIACC in ICCAC opener

 

Sophomore Jaden Ainley of Clear Lake scored 31 points and collected 16 rebounds to lead the DMACC women's basketball team to a 72-60 win over North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) December 2 at Mason City in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) opener for both teams.

 

Ainley's 31 points came from seven field goals in 18 attempts, including 1-of-5 from three-point range. She was 16-of-19 from the free throw line.

 

Freshman Eviyon Richardson of Waterloo added 14 points as the Bears improved to 4-5 for the season with their second straight win. Sophomores Reanna Hutchinson of Eau Claire, Wis., and Rebekah Fuller of Bondurant contributed eight points apiece.

 

DMACC led throughout the game. The Bears were up 23-9 at the end of the first quarter and held a 38-29 advantage at halftime. They led 50-43 after three quarters.

 

DMACC shot 33 percent in the win, making 23 of 69 field goal attempts. The Bears shot 30 percent from three-point range with six field goals in 20 attempts and they shot 80 percent from the free throw line, going 20-of-25.

 

DMACC dominated the boards, 49-27, with freshman Joy Beran of Riceville grabbing 17 rebounds to lead the Bears. Hutchinson 12 rebounds gave the Bears three players in double figures and sophomore Kennedy Jones of Oak Park, Ill., had seven rebounds. Ainley and Hutchinson led the Bears in assists with three apiece.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will face the St. Ambrose University Junior Varsity today at Davenport.
