Ainley lifts DMACC women's basketball team past KCKCC, 71-51

 

Sophomore Jaden Ainley of Clear Lake scored 21 points to lead the DMACC women's basketball team to a 71-51 win over Kansas City (Kan.) Community College (KCKCC) November 27 at Kansas City, Mo.

 

Sophomore Reanna Hutchinson of Eau Claire, Wis., and freshman Eviyon Richardson of Waterloo scored 16 and 11 points respectively as the Bears ended a two-game losing streak with the win. Sophomore Rebekah Fuller of Bondurant and freshman Joy Beran of Riceville barely missed double figures with nine and eight points respectively.

 

DMACC trailed at the end of the first quarter, 13-9, but outscored the Blue Devils 20-8 in the second period for a 29-21 advantage at halftime. The Bears held a 48-37 lead at the end of the third quarter.

 

DMACC shot 44 percent in the win, making 26 of 59 field goal attempts The Bears were 5-of-19 from three-point range and 14-of-20 from the free throw line.

 

Fuller had nine rebounds as DMACC came away with a 43-34 advantage on the boards. Beran and sophomore Kennedy Jones of Oak Park, Ill., had six rebounds apiece and freshman Mary Walker of Fonda pulled down five. Walker led the Bears in assists with four and Hutchinson, Richardson and Walker had three steals apiece.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will face North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) in the Bears' Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) opener Dec. 2 at Mason City. The Trojans are 7-2 this season.
