DMACC women's basketball team falls to Johnson County CC, 73-38

The DMACC women's basketball team fell to 2-5 for the season following a 73-38 loss to Johnson County Community College (JCCC) November 26 at Overland Park, Kan.

 

JCCC, ranked second in the Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), led throughout the game, including an 18-13 advantage at the end of the first quarter. The Cavaliers were up 32-15 at halftime and held a 53-31 lead at the end of the third quarter.

 

Sophomore Reanna Hutchinson of Eau Claire, Wis., and freshman Eviyon Richardson of Waterloo paced the Bears with eight points apiece. Freshman Mary Walker of Fonda came away with seven points and sophomore Rebekah Fuller of Bondurant had six points to go along with two blocked shots.

 

DMACC shot a disappointing 22 percent from the field, hitting 13 of 59 field goal attempts. The Bears were 5-of-24 from three-point range and 7-of-10 from the free throw line.

 

JCCC came away with a 42-26 advantage on the boards with Richardson's six rebounds leading the Bears. Sophomore Kennedy Jones of Oak Park, Ill., dished out three assists and Hutchinson topped DMACC in steals with three.

 

The loss came on the heels of a 75-63 setback to the Wartburg College Junior Varsity (WCJV) Nov. 20 at Waverly. WCJV had a 21-14 lead at the end of the first quarter and held a 34-24 advantage at halftime. The Knights were ahead 61-50 at the end of the third quarter.

 

Sophomore Jaden Ainley of Clear Lake led three DMACC players in double figures with 22 points. Hutchinson finished with 15 points and Fuller added 10 points.

 

DMACC shot 30 percent from the field, making 22 of 73 field goal attempts. The Bears were 2-of-19 from three-point range and 17-of-29 from the free throw line.

 

DMACC finished the game with 41 rebounds and Ainley finished with a double-double with 10 rebounds. Fuller had eight rebounds and freshman Joy Beran of Riceville had seven. Kennedy dished out four assists and Ainley led the Bears in steals with four.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will close out a two-day Kansas City trip against Kansas City (Kan.) Community College (KCKCC) today at Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Mo.
