DMACC women's basketball team drops two games in NCMC Classic

The DMACC women's basketball team slipped to 1-3 for the season following back-to-back losses in the NCMC Classic November 10 and 11 at Trenton, Mo.

 

DMACC dropped an 83-72 decision to North Central Missouri College (NCMC) on Nov. 10 and fell to Highland Community College (HCC), 65-59, on Nov. 11. NCMC is ranked 10th in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll.

 

Sophomore Reanna Hutchinson of Eau Claire, Wis., scored 23 points and sophomore Jaden Ainley of Clear Lake and freshman Eviyon Richardson of Waterloo came away with 15 points apiece in the loss to NCMC. DMACC had a 23-15 lead after the first quarter but was outscored 23-8 in the second period as NCMC opened up a 38-31 lead at halftime. DMACC returned in the favor in the third period, outscoring the Pirates 26-16 for a 57-54 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

 

The Bears shot 36 percent, hitting 29 of 80 field goal attempts. They were 6-of-21 from three-point range and 8-of-14 from the free throw line.

 

Ainley had nine rebounds and sophomore Hallie Mohr of Mediapolis and freshman Joy Beran of Riceville came away with eight apiece as NCMC won the rebound battle, 47-41. Sophomore Kennedy Jones of Oak Park, Ill., dished out five assists for DMACC and also led the way in steals with two.

 

Ainley scored 24 points and freshman Mary Walker of Fonda had 13 in the loss to HCC. DMACC trailed 11-10 at the end of the first quarter and led 29-25 at halftime. HCC held a 46-43 lead at the end of the third quarter.

 

The Bears shot 30 percent from the field, making 17 of 57 field goal attempts. They were 5-of-24 from three-point range and 20-of-21 at the free throw line.

 

Ainley's seven rebounds and six from Mohr and Beran lifted DMACC to a 37-30 advantage in rebounding. Hutchinson, Ainley and Beran topped the Bears in assists with two apiece and Hutchinson came away with two steals.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will play the Briar Cliff University Junior Varsity (BCUJV) in the Iowa Central Classic Nov. 17 at Fort Dodge.
