Sophomore Jaden Ainley of Clear Lake scored a team-high 27 points to lead the DMACC women's basketball team to an 87-80 win over Southeast (Neb.) Community College (SECC) November 3 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

Ainley made 10 of 16 field goal attempts, including four of seven three-point attempts, and was a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line as the Bears improved to 1-1 for the season.

 

Three other players joined Ainley in double figures. Sophomore Halie Mohr of Mediapolis had 17 points, freshman Mary Walker of Fonda came away with 15 and sophomore Rebekah Fuller of Bondurant finished with 11.

 

The Bears shot 47 percent in the win, making 33 of 71 field goal attempts. They were 11-of-28 from three-point range, and 10-of-14 from the free throw line.

 

DMACC led throughout the game. The Bears were up 22-14 at the end of the first quarter and had a 44-35 advantage at halftime. DMACC led 67-57 at the end of the third quarter.

 

Fuller recorded a double-double with 10 rebounds as DMACC came away with a 44-29 advantage on the boards. Freshmen Joy Beran of Riceville and Eviyon Richardson of Waterloo had eight rebounds apiece and Mohr and sophomore Reanne Hutchinson of Eau Claire, Wis., grabbed six apiece. Walker and sophomore Kennedy Jones of Oak Park, Ill., finished with six and five assists apiece and Jones, Walker and Ainley had two steals apiece. Fuller had three blocked shots.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team was scheduled to host the William Penn University Junior Varsity (WPUJV) tonight inside the DMACC gymnasium but that game has been postponed until a later date yet to be determined. The Bears will participate in the NCMC Classic Nov. 10 and 11 at Trenton, Mo. DMACC will play North Central Missouri College (NCMC) on Nov. 10 and play Highland (Kan.) Community College (HCC) on Nov. 11.
