DMACC's Grace Flanagan named second-team All-American
  • Flanagan led the Bears in scoring, averaging 16 points a game
  • She shot 45 percent from the field and 47 percent from three-point range
  • Flanagan was second in the ICCAC in steals and free throw percentage and fourth in scoring and three-point shooting

 

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has named DMACC's Grace Flanagan a second-team All-American for Division II women's basketball for the 2020-21 season.

 

Flanagan, a freshman from Coggon and a member of the DMACC women's basketball team, is the seventh DMACC women's basketball player to earn All-American honors. Jenny Harle was named a third-team All-American for the 2003-04 season; Ashley Freerksen earned third-team honors in 2004-05; Jocelyn Anderson, currently a DMACC assistant women's basketball coach, earned second-team honors in 2005-06 and 2006-07; Katlyn Wood named a third-team All-American in 2010-11; Carlee Schuhmacher earned first-team honors in 2012-13 and 2013-14; and London Vais was named a first-team All-American in 2015-16.

 

Flanagan led the Bears in scoring, averaging 16 points a game. She scored 352 points on 45 percent shooting, hitting 119 of 265 field goal attempts. Flanagan shot 47 percent from three-point range, making 62 of 133 attempts, and was 52-of-61 from the free throw line. Flanagan also led DMACC in assists with 66 and had a 1.8 assist to turnover ratio. Her season also included 97 rebounds, including 73 defensive rebounds, a team-high 77 steals and two blocked shots.

 

Flanagan was second in the ICCAC in steals and free throw percentage and was fourth in three-point shooting and scoring.

 

In addition to earning second-team All-American honors, Flanagan was named to the NJCAA Region XI All-Region First Team and was also the region's Newcomer of the Year.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team compiled a 15-7 record in the 2020-21 season, including a 14-6 mark in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCA). The Bears were ranked as high as 11th in the NJCAA Division II women's basketball poll. Their season came to a close with an 85-66 loss to Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) in the Region XI-B Women's Basketball Championship.
