DMACC Women's Basketball team falls to Kirkwood Community College, 89-55
  • Freshman Magan Christopherson of Milford leads DMACC with 13 points

Freshman Magan Christopherson of Milford scored 13 points and freshmen Jenna Bohaty of Omaha, Neb., and Emily Caspers of Swaledale had 11 and 10 points respectively as the DMACC women's basketball team dropped an 89-55 decision to Kirkwood Community College (KCC) March 27 at Cedar Rapids.

 

The loss sends DMACC to 13-5 for the season.

 

KCC is ranked second nationally in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll and DMACC is ranked 12th. KCC led the entire game in defeating the Bears for the second time this season. The Eagles were ahead 27-9 at the end of the first quarter, 46-27 at halftime and 69-46 at the end of the third quarter.

 

DMACC shot 37 percent in the loss, hitting 20 of 54 field goal attempts. The Bears were 5-of-19 from three-point range and 10-of-12 from the free throw line.

 

KCC came away with a 39-25 advantage on the boards with Caspers and sophomore Jada Powell of Des Moines leading DMACC with six rebounds apiece. Christopherson and freshman Grace Flanagan of Coggon dished out three assists apiece and Flanagan finished with four steals.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will play Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) March 31. Game time is 5 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium. ICCC is 10-7 including a 67-63 loss to DMACC when the two teams played Feb. 3 at Fort Dodge
