Flanagan's 20 points lead DMACC women's basketball team past ECC, 68-62

Freshman Grace Flanagan of Coggon scored 20 points and freshman Magan Christopherson of Milford and sophomore Jada Powell of Des Moines reached double figures with 15 and 13 points respectively as the DMACC women's basketball team handed Ellsworth Community College (ECC) a 68-62 loss March 13 at Iowa Falls.

 

Powell had 11 rebounds for a double-double as the Bears improved to 12-3 for the season.

 

DMACC trailed 18-13 at the end of the first quarter and 30-29 at halftime before taking control of the game. The Bears led 47-43 at the end of the third quarter.

 

DMACC shot 38 percent in the win, hitting 24 of 64 field goal attempts. The Bears were 8-of-24 from three-point range and 12-of-17 from the free throw line. Flanagan and Christopherson were effective from three-point range, hitting three three-pointers apiece. Flanagan was 3-of-7 from beyond the arc and Christopherson made three of nine attempts.

 

Powell's 11 rebounds helped DMACC to a 48-37 edge in rebounding. Freshman Emily Caspers of Swaledale led the Bears with 13 rebounds to go with six points and Christopherson came away with six rebounds. Flanagan dished out a team-high four assists and Christopherson and freshman Karlyn Snider of Rhodes had three assists apiece. Flanagan topped DMACC in steals with three.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will face Southeastern Community College (SECC) March 20. Game time is 1 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium. SECC is 3-13 on the season.
