Freshman Magan Christopherson of Milford led three players in double figures with 16 points as the DMACC women's basketball team picked up its 11th win of the season behind a 61-52 decision against Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) March 10 at Estherville.

 

Sophomore Jada Powell of Des Moines recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds and freshman Grace Flanagan of Coggon tallied 11 points as the Bears improved to 11-3 for the season with their second win over the Lakers.

 

DMACC led throughout the game. The Bear were up 17-11 at the end of the first quarter, 27-26 at halftime and 48-40 at the end of the third quarter.

 

DMACC shot 39 percent in the win, hitting 25 of 64 field goal attempts. The Bears were 8-of-21 from three-point range and 3-of-6 from the free throw line. Christopherson's 16 points included four three-point baskets in six attempts.

 

Powell's 10 rebounds lifted DMACC to a 48-36 advantage on the boards. Freshman Emily Caspers of Swaledale had nine rebounds, Christopherson came away with eight and freshman Jenna Bohaty of Omaha, Neb., had six.

 

Christopherson had a team-high six assists to go with her 16 points and freshman Camry Jones of Milford and Flanagan had four and three assists respectively. Flanagan led the Bears in steals with four.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will play Ellsworth Community College (ECC) March 13 at Iowa Falls. The Panthers are 3-11 for the season. Included in their losses is a 69-41 loss to DMACC Feb. 6 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
