DMACC women's basketball team falls to IWCC, 63-51

The DMACC women's basketball team fell to 10-3 for the season with a 63-51 loss to Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) March 6 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

The loss was the second of the season to the Reivers, a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I program. DMACC, an NJCAA Division II program, came into the game ranked 11th in NJCAA Division II.

 

The Bears led 15-11 at the end of the first quarter and 33-26 at halftime. They trailed 43-41 at the end of the third quarter.

 

Freshman Grace Flanagan of Coggon led the Bears with 19 points and freshman Magan Christopherson of Milford had 12 points. Freshman Emily Caspers of Swaledale came away with seven points.

 

DMACC shot a disappointing 29 percent, hitting 16 of 56 field goal attempts. The Bears were 4-of-17 from three-point range and made 15 of 19 free throw attempts.

 

IWCC had a 45-36 advantage on the boards. Caspers led DMACC with 12 rebounds and Christopherson added eight. Sophomore Jada Powell of Des Moines came away with six. Flanagan led DMACC in steals with five and Powell had two steals and two blocked shots.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will play Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) March 10 at Estherville. The Bears defeated the Lakers 78-66 when the two teams played Jan. 30 inside the DMACC gymnasium. ILCC is 6-8 this season.
