Freshman Grace Flanagan of Coggon scored 28 points and freshman Magan Christopherson of Milford added 20 to lead the DMACC women's basketball team to a 75-59 win over Southwestern Community College (SWCC) February 10 at Creston.

 

The win was the sixth straight for the Bears following a season-opening loss to Kirkwood Community College (KCC).

 

DMACC led 26-16 at the end of the first quarter, 41-30 at halftime and 55-41 at the end of the third quarter.

 

DMACC, ranked 14th in the most recent Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), took advantage of 46 percent shooting from three-point range en route to the win. The Bears connected on 16 of 35 attempts from beyond the arc, including 10-of-23 shooting in the first half. Flanagan drained eight of her 11 three-point attempts and Christopherson went 4-of-11.

 

Overall, DMACC was 26 of 65 from the field and made nine of 18 free throw attempts.

 

Freshman Lexi Banning of Manning pulled down 11 rebounds as SWCC came away with a 50-39 advantage on the boards. In addition to her 20 points, Christopherson dished out a team-high six assists. Flanagan, Banning, freshman Jenna Bohaty of Omaha, Neb., and freshman Emily Caspers of Swaledale led DMACC with two steals apiece.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team is home to North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) on Feb. 13. Game time is 1 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium. NIACC is winless on the season at 0-5, including a 71-49 loss to the Bears when the two teams played Jan. 23 at Mason City.
