DMACC women's basketball team tops Ellsworth CC for fifth consecutive victory

Freshmen Magan Christopherson of Milford and Emily Caspers of Swaledale scored 14 points apiece to lead the DMACC women's basketball team to a 69-41 win over Ellsworth Community College (ECC) February 6 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

The win was the fifth straight for the Bears, who improved to 5-1 following a season-opening loss to Kirkwood Community College (KCC).

 

DMACC, ranked 13th in the most recent Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), pulled away from a 2-2 tie with 19 unanswered points to take early control of the game. The Bears led 21-2 at the quarter, 36-15 at halftime and 56-33 at the end of the third quarter. Sophomore Jada Powell of Des Moines and freshman Jenna Bohaty of Omaha, Neb., added eight points apiece to the DMACC total and freshman Camry Jones of Milford finished with six points.

 

DMACC shot 38 percent in the win, hitting 23 of 60 field goal attempts. The Bears were 7-of-26 from three-point range and 16-of-25 from the free throw line. Christopherson and freshman Grace Flanagan of Coggon led DMACC from three-point range, hitting two apiece.

 

Powell came away with 10 rebounds and Jones had eight to lift DMACC to a 52-34 advantage on the boards. Powell, Christopherson and Flanagan dished out three assists apiece and Bohaty led DMACC in steals with four.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will play Southwestern Community College (SWCC) Feb. 10 at Creston. The Spartans are 2-3 for the season.
