DMACC's Grace Flanagan named ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II women's basketball

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC women's basketball player Grace Flanagan the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II women's basketball for the week of January 25 to 31.

 

Flanagan, a freshman from Coggon, scored 38 points, grabbed 14 rebounds, dished out seven assists and came away with eight steals in leading the Bears to victories against Marshalltown Community College (MCC) and Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC).

 

Flanagan tied former DMACC standout Carlee Schuhmacher for second place on DMACC's single game scoring list with 38 points in an 88-41 win over MCC on Jan. 27. Her 38 points came from 15 field goals in 22 attempts, including 6-of-9 from three-point range. She made her only two free throw attempts, grabbed eight rebounds, dished out four assists and had eight steals.

 

Flanagan and Schuhmacher share second place behind Jenny Harle, who scored 40 points against the Buena Vista University (BVU) junior varsity on Feb. 12, 2004. Schuhmacher tallied 38 points against Illinois Central on Nov. 15, 2013. Flanagan broke the school record for field goals in a game which was 14 by Harle on Feb. 12, 2004 and matched by Trace Harris on Dec. 15. 2004.

Flanagan is tied for four in three-point field percentage in a game, tied for 10th in three-point field goals in a game and tied for second in steals in a game.

 

Flanagan scored 13 points, grabbed eight rebounds and was credited with four assists and two steals in a 78-66 win over ILCC on Jan. 30.

 

Flanagan, who has started every game for the Bears (3-1), leads DMACC in scoring with a 20.3 average. She is shooting 54 percent from the field, having made 29 of 54 field goal attempts. Flanagan has connected on 12 of 23 three-point attempts for 52 percent and is 11-of-12 from the free throw line for 92 percent. Her season also includes 20 rebounds, 10 assists and 13 steals and she has committed just three turnovers in DMACC's four games.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team, ranked 13th in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, face Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) tonight at Fort Dodge. The Tritons bring a 2-2 record into the game.
