Flanagan's Career Night Leads Bears in Romp of Tigers
  • Grace Flanagan (above) of Coggon scored a career-high 38 points, tying her for the second-most points scored in a single game in DMACC women's basketball history.

  • Flanagan also broke the team record for most field goals in a game with 15, and had eight steals for the Bears, which also tied for the second-highest, single-game total in DMACC women's basketball history.

  • The Bears outscored Marshalltown by 53 to 17 during the second half as the team recorded a convincing win.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team, led by Coggon freshman Grace Flanagan, defeated Marshalltown Community College 88-41 on Wed., Jan. 27th in Marshalltown.

Flanagan scored 38 points, which is her career high, and ties for the second-most points in DMACC women's basketball history. She tied Carlee Schumacher's 38 points against Illinois Center in 2013. Jenny Harle holds the record with 40 points on Feb. 12, 2004, against Buena Vista J.V. Flanagan's 38 points set a DMACC women's basketball record for the most points scored in a single game by a freshman player.

Flanagan also broke the school record with 15 made field goals. The previous record was 14 by Jenny Harle against Buena Vista J.V., and Trace Harris vs. Dubuque J.V. on Dec. 15, 2004.

Flanagan connected on 6 of her 9 three-point-field goal attempts during the game, tying her 10th place in team history.  She also had eight steals for the Bears, which is the second-highest in Bears history. Former Bear Ashley Martin holds the record with 11 steals in one game.

The Bears, now 2-1 on the season, also received 21 points from Milford freshman Magan Christopherson, six points each from Lexi Branning of Manning and Shamir Brown of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and five points from Emma Jacobsen of from Adel. Rounding out the scoring were Emily Caspers of Swaledale and Camry Jones of Okoboji with four points each, and Jensen Archibald of Martensdale and Karlyn Snider of Rhodes with two points each.

Branning led the Bears with 11 rebounds, while Camry had eight rebounds and Jada Powell of Des Moines added seven rebounds. DMACC outrebounded MCC 55 to 39.

DMACC led 18-12 after the first quarter and extended its lead to 35 to 24 at halftime. DMACC used a 32-point third quarter to lead 67 to 36 going into the fourth quarter. The Bears outscored Marshalltown by 53 to 17 in the second half.

As a team, the Bears connected on 44 percent of their field goal attempts, compared to only 26 percent for MCC.

DMACC will host Iowa Lakes Community College (1-2) on Sat., Jan. 30th, with tipoff scheduled for 1 p.m. in Boone. The game will be livestreamed at dmaccbears.com/livestream.
