DMACC Women Defeats NIACC, 71-49

The DMACC women's basketball team, led by Coggon freshman Grace Flanagan's 20 points, defeated North Iowa Area Community College 71-49 on Sat., Jan. 23rd, in Mason City.

The Bears, now 1-1 on the season, also received 14 points from Milford freshman Magan Christopherson, 11 points from Emily Caspers of Swaledale and seven points from Jada Powell of Des Moines East High School. Rounding out the scoring for the Bears was five points from Jenna Bohaty of Omaha, four each from Shamir Brown of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Camry Jones of Okoboji, and two each from Jensen Archibald of Martensdale, Karlyn Snider of Rhodes and Lexi Branning of Manning.

Powell led the Bears with 11 rebounds, while Caspers added 10 boards and Brown another seven, as DMACC handily outrebound NIACC 58 to 34.

DMACC jumped out to an 8-0 lead after the first quarter and led 29 to 18 at halftime en route to the 22 point win.

The Bears connected on 40 percent of their field goal attempts, but only 2 for 8 or 25 percent from three-point range. DMACC made 17 of 19 of its free throw attempts for 89 percent and is currently coverting 90 percent of its free throws attempts for the season. 

DMACC travels to Marshalltown on Wed., Jan. 27th, for a 5 p.m. game against Marshalltown Community College (1-1).
