DMACC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM DROPS SEASON OPENER

·         Magan Christopherson of Milford leads the Bears with 18 points and six rebounds in the season opening loss.

·         DMACC held a two-point lead over the number three team in the nation at halftime.

·         DMACC connects on 9 of 10 free throws in the game.  

Milford freshman Magan Christopherson came off the bench to score 18 points and freshman Grace Flanagan of Coggon scored 12 points as the DMACC women's basketball team dropped their season opener to Kirkwood Community College (KCC) 70-63 January 20 inside the DMACC Gymnasium. KCC is ranked third in the nation according to the latest National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II women's basketball poll. 

 

Christopherson hit six of her nine field goal attempts and was 4 for 7 in three-point attempts and two for two from the free throw line for her 18 points.

The game was tied at 21 after the first quarter with DMACC taking a 40 to 38 lead at halftime.  Kirkwood outscored the DMACC Bears 22 to 15 in the third quarter and 10 to 8 in the fourth quarter.

 

DMACC shot 44 percent for the game, including 8 for 19 for 42 percent from three-point range.  The Bears also made 9 of their 10 free throws or 90 percent for the contest. 

 

DMACC was outrebounded Kirkwood 42 to 36 in the game. Christopherson and freshman Emily Caspers of Swaledale had six rebounds each for DMACC with five rebounds coming from freshman Lexi Branning of Manning.

 

The Bears travel to Mason City on Saturday, January 23 to play North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC). NIACC is 0-1 for the season.
