DMACC women's basketball team falls to MCC, 60-56

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) women's basketball team slipped to 4-6 for the season following a 60-56 loss to Marshalltown Community College (MCC) November 28 at Marshalltown.

 

The Bears trailed throughout the game, including 13-10 at the end of the first quarter, 25-22 at halftime and 46-31 at the end of the third quarter. They closed to within two points, 58-56, with less than 30 seconds to play.

 

DMACC was led by freshman Asia Mena of Chicago, Ill., who came off the bench to score 13 points. Sophomores Aliyah Robinson of Waterloo and Emma Rouse of Boone scored 11 points apiece and sophomore Grace Stalzer of Zearing finished with nine points.

 

The Bears shot just 32 percent in the loss, hitting 22 of 69 field goal attempts. They were 7-of-28 from three-point range and 5-of-10 from the free throw line.

 

Stalzer's seven rebounds and six by sophomore Ellie Horn of Newton led DMACC to a 39-32 advantage on the boards. Freshman Shailece Porter of Walthill, Neb., led the Bears in assists with five and Robinson and Stalzer had two steals apiece. Horn topped DMACC in blocked shots with three.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will host Southeast (Neb.) Community College (SENEB) Dec. 1 inside the DMACC gymnasium. Game time is 1 p.m. DMACC defeated the Storm 87-53 when the two teams played Nov. 3 at Beatrice, Neb.
