DMACC women's basketball team ends losing streak with 70-39 win

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) women's basketball team ended a three-game losing streak with a 70-39 win over Black Hawk College-Moline (BHCM) November 20 at Moline, Ill.

 

The Bears improved to 4-5 with the win.

 

Freshman Samaria Jackson of Houston, Texas, led DMACC to the win with14 points. Freshman Asia Mena of Chicago, Ill., tallied 13 points and sophomore Aliyah Robinson of Waterloo came away with 11.

 

The Bears led 15-11 at the end of the first quarter and stretched their advantage to 34-18 at halftime. DMACC led 49-30 at the end of the third quarter.

 

The Bears shot 36 percent from the field, hitting 33 of 93 field goal attempts. They were 7-of-22 from three-point range and 11-of-22 from the free throw line.

 

Sophomore Grace Stalzer of Zearing grabbed nine rebounds and Jackson added eight as DMACC came away with a 48-35 advantage on the boards. Freshman Shailece Porter of Walthill, Neb., dished out a team-high four assists and Mena and sophomore Emma Rouse had three assists apiece. Robinson led DMACC the Bears in steals with five.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will play Marshalltown Community College (MCC) Nov. 28 at Marshalltown. MCC is 3-6 this season.
